Bay and Bow Windows
Bay and bow windows are a simple way to increase the amount of space in your home, let more natural light in and give your home a new look. Not only do they look good from the outside, from the inside, but you can also enjoy your view and let the sunshine in.
At Kayvex, you’ll find bay and bow windows in many different colours and finishes, so you can choose one that suits your property. Choose classic white uPVC for a clean, modern finish on a new build home, or opt for a woodgrain finish to add character to your period property.
Bay windows are generally made with three angled sides, creating a trapezoid shape that juts out from the exterior of your home. They can be made so that all the windows open, or more commonly, people will choose which windows they wish to open.
An alternative to bay windows is bow windows. A bow window is installed to create a semi-circle, rather than having the angles of a bay window. This creates a unique feature that suits all sorts of properties.

Can you hang curtains in a bay or bow window?
While you may love the natural light you get from a bow or bay window during the day, at night, you’ll no doubt want to cosy up and close the curtains. It’s certainly possible to hang curtains in a bay or bow window, although you need to get the right fittings so they work properly. For bow windows, you can get bendable curtain rods, which simply fit around the arc. If you have a bay window, you can get rods that have gaps to allow curtains to be pulled all the way around for full coverage and privacy.
Can bow or bay windows increase your home’s value?
Installing a feature such as bay or bow windows can add value to your home. They can make rooms appear brighter and let in natural light, which buyers love, plus it adds extra space which can be used as a seating area, reading nook or for storage. It also means, if you have a beautiful view, you can really show it off. While installing a bay or bow window is more expensive than regular windows, it is a good investment.
Does a bay window always have three sides?
The classic bay window has three sides in a trapezoid shape, with one large, flat window and two windows at a 45-degree angle to the front of your home. This style became popular in Victorian times and was used throughout the decades in the 20th century, never going out of style. More modern styles, like box windows, also have three sides, but the side windows are at 90-degrees, for a rectangular shape. This makes the inside space easier to use, as you can fit a sofa or table in there. A box bay window also gives you a more contemporary look if you prefer to keep things simple. The Kayvex team are happy to help you decide which one works better for you.
Is a bay window different to a bow window?
Bay and bow windows are both good ways to bring more light into your home and add more space. However, their designs are slightly different. A bay window is created by taking three windows and installing them in a trapezoid or rectangular shape from your wall. A bow window is made up of several windows, usually around four to six, which are installed at slight angles to create a sleek, arc effect. If you aren’t sure which one would work for your home, Kayvex can help you make that choice.
Can bay or bow windows be made to open?
Bay and bow windows are made from multiple panels, and all or some of them can be made to open. With bay windows, most people opt to have the side windows and top windows able to open, with the middle panel fixed, but it’s completely up to you. Bow windows are a little more complicated, as they are made up of lots of slim panels, so it may be that only some of the window can be made to open. Kayvex can help you design your windows to your personal preference.
How can I use a bay window?
A bay window provides you with extra space, so what’s the best way to use it? A popular option is to install a seating space, as this makes a nice reading nook or place to sit and watch the world outside. You can also install extra storage for toys or other stuff, add low bookshelves, or even create a cosy space for your pet.
