Common questions

What is a casement window?

A casement window is a classic style where the windows are hinged at the side or the top, allowing them to swing open. You can choose to have one or multiple windows in each frame, and this style is very versatile. Top-hung casement windows open at the bottom, allowing for a slight breeze and some fresh air in the house, while the angle of the window keeps your interior safe from rain.

Side hung casement windows are one of the most common casement windows you’ll see in peoples’ homes. These windows swing open outwards, allowing you to let lots of fresh air inside during the summer months.

Is there a difference between casement and picture windows?

Picture windows are generally made of one large pane of glass and are often put in places where you want to enjoy the view. They don’t have handles or internal frames, which mean these windows don’t open.

A casement window can open, which is great for when you need some fresh air. However, the view may be slightly more obstructed by the handles and frame. This means casement windows are generally installed in living areas, from living rooms to bedrooms, while picture windows are better for areas that simply need more light, like hallways.

What do flush casement windows cost?

The cost of flush casement windows will depend on a number of factors. Firstly, the size of the window, as well as what material you choose; uPVC tends to be the least expensive option while timber and aluminium will cost a little more. It’ll also depend on what finishes you choose – whether you opt for something plain or go for woodgrain finishes and colours – and whether you want any decorative features like leading.

Another factor is the cost of installation. If you’re just replacing a window, like for like, this is usually a straightforward job, but widening or narrowing a window frame will be more labour intensive.

Can flush casement windows make your home more energy efficient?

When you choose flush casement windows from Kayvex, your windows are built by experts who carefully measure your frame and create windows that are the perfect fit. These windows are high quality and completely draught free, so the cold air doesn’t get into your home and the heat doesn’t escape, saving you money on your energy bills.

Our windows are double-glazed as standard, which improves energy efficiency in your home, but you may want to consider triple glazing for even more protection from the elements and noise reduction. Our team will be happy to tell you about the options for glazing your flush casement windows.

Are flush casement windows secure?

Kayvex work with the UK police in their Secured By Design initiative to create the most secure windows possible. All our windows, including our flush casement windows range, are extremely difficult to break into and have secure locks, so you can feel safe in your home.

Our flush casement window have hook-shaped locks, which make our windows extremely difficult to access from the outside. This also makes them nearly impossible to pry open. Newer windows are also a good deterrent against intruders, as they know how difficult it is to break into them.

Is it worth installing flush casement windows?

New windows can be a good investment for all sorts of homes. Flush casement windows can give your home more light and ventilation, so it feels lighter and more open, and they can improve the interior and exterior look of your home. Another great thing about new windows is that they improve your home’s insulation. The tight seal on these windows helps your home stay warm in winter so you can cut your energy bills, and the double or triple glazing can cut down on noise, perfect for those who live in busy areas.
