Lantern Roof Conservatories
For a look that’s elegant yet makes a style statement, lantern roof conservatories are a great choice. They allow you to create a living space in your home that’s both beautiful and practical.
Lantern roof conservatories have two layers of conservatory roof, which are divided by a row of windows. This creates a ‘wedding cake’ effect, which gives your conservatory an interesting focal point and an attractive finish.
Lantern roof conservatories have a classic, elegant look, which is why they’re popular with our customers who live in period homes. When you look at these conservatories, they’ll no doubt remind you of the stylish homes from Edwardian and Victorian eras. However, a lantern roof conservatory can look just as beautiful in a modern property, and Kayvex can create a sleek design that works for a newer home.
A lantern roof brings lots of natural light into your home, even when we are suffering through the grey British weather. This gives you the health benefits of natural light all year-round.
Lantern roofs can be added to extensions, fitted to existing conservatories, or incorporated into the design of your brand-new conservatory. When you choose Kayvex to create your lantern roof, you can feel confident that it’ll be built to the highest standard, and will be weatherproof and energy efficient, so you can simply relax and enjoy your home.

A Lantern Roof conservatory uses fewer bars to let in even more light. With an extended eaves beam, rather than a flat roof, the internal pelmet and external cornice create a stunning orangery roof style.
A decorative cornice is used outside to hide the guttering and create beautiful sight lines.
The internal insulated pelmet will enable you to enjoy better lighting and thermal performance. You can even opt for integrated spotlights and speakers to enhance your experience.

What is a lantern roof conservatory?
Lantern roof conservatories are an alternative to a glass roof that still let in lots of natural light. The lantern is built into a rectangular space in the ceiling, with pitched glass panes that create a tiered effect. You then have a decorative cornice on the outside to hide the guttering. Lantern roofs bring in lots of light and allow you to enjoy views of the sky. They can be added to existing conservatories, or a new conservatory can be built with one.
Does a roof lantern lose heat?
When compared to a tiled, insulated roof, a roof lantern can lose slightly more heat. That’s why it’s important to choose a high-quality roof lantern that is thermally efficient. At Kayvex, we manufacture our roof lanterns with double glazing to reduce heat loss. You can also choose to upgrade to triple glazing for extra protection. Our roof lanterns are also built with insulated pelmets on the inside, which help with energy efficiency. A roof lantern is more energy-efficient than a fully glass roof, but still lets in lots of natural light.
Do roof lanterns let in more natural light?
Roof lanterns are one of the best ways to make the most of natural light. Even on gloomy, cloudy days, you’ll find the room is still light and you rarely need to use a lamp. Depending on the size of the roof lantern you choose, it can let in around three times more light than a standard window. Some people worry this will overheat the room during the summer, but rest assured, our energy-efficient glass keeps the temperature comfortable, and we can add a UV filter or tinted windows to protect from glare and avoid damage to your furnishings.
How do I clean my roof lantern?
Roof lanterns are low maintenance, but they can get a little dusty or attract dirt over time. On the inside, you can use a long handle with a sponge on the end to give them a clean with soap and warm water. Your window cleaner can usually do the exterior, or you can clean it yourself in a similar way. Avoid cleaning your roof lantern on sunny days, as the quick-drying water can lead to streaks.
At Kayvex, we also offer self-cleaning glass, which has a coating to repel dirt, so your roof lantern needs to be cleaned much less. You also end up with fewer smudges, as rain droplets don’t stick on the surface. If you’re interested in this finish, contact us today and we can tell you more about it.
