Porches
-
Improve the exterior of your home and add space to the interior with one of our porches. Porches are an interesting feature for both period and modern homes, so they enhance kerb appeal from the outside. It also gives you a space to store bulky coats and muddy shoes and is more practical than having a front door that opens into your living room.
Kayvex manufactures our porches in the UK, meaning you get lots of options for personalisation. There are lots of brick options that blend seamlessly into your own home, plus you can choose a variety of windows and doors, with many colours and woodgrain finishes available.
Adding a porch can be a good way of increasing home security. Kayvex can install a strong front door with multi-point locking systems, made of materials that are tough and extremely secure. If you opt for windows, then these can also be installed with strong locks, or you can opt for a simple, non-opening picture window just to let in light.
No two porches are the same, and they come in all shapes and sizes. You can choose a glass roof for natural light, or a tiled roof for energy efficiency, which is an inexpensive option. Kayvex can install a small porch, with a little storage space for shoes, or you can opt for something bigger with enough space to make a rustic boot room, with benches and racks for big winter coats. This is ideal for families who spend a lot of time outdoors and don’t want to bring the mud back inside with them.

Common Questions
Do porches need foundations?
No matter how big or small your porch will be, it will need foundations. This might seem like a big step for such a small space, but if we didn’t add foundations, then your porch would be in danger of tipping, subsiding or generally not lasting very long. At Kayvex, we want to give you high-quality porches that you can enjoy for decades to come, which is why we send a surveyor to your house before we even start manufacturing your porch in our factory. This is to check what kind of foundations you’ll need depending on the soil around your home, so we can make you the sturdiest porch we can.
How big can a porch be without needing planning permission?
Most porches won’t need planning permission as small extensions fall under “permitted development.” For this to apply, however, the porch needs to be a maximum size of three metres squared, and there must be at least a two-metre gap between where your property ends and the road begins. There is also a height limit of three metres for this type of porch. Anything larger than this may need planning permission, so contact your Local Planning Authority if you’re not sure.
Does adding a porch add value to your home?
There isn’t a yes or no answer to this question, as it depends on the function the porch will be serving. If your front door opens straight into a living room or kitchen, with no clear area for shoes and coats, then a porch would clearly be an asset to the property and it is likely to add value. If you already have a hallway that provides the function of storing coats and boots, then adding an additional porch area might not have much of an effect on the value of your home.
What is a good size for a porch?
This depends on what you want to use the porch for. If it is just a function space to dump damp winter coats and muddy shoes, then 1.75/2metres long is probably sufficient, and you won’t need to make it too wide. If you have young children or elderly family members who like to sit down to put on and take off their shoes, you might want to go a little wider to fit in a small bench. Contact us today to talk to one of our experts, who will be happy to talk through any questions you have about your porch size.
