Stable Doors

  • A great solution for when you want to let in fresh air and natural light without opening the entire door, stable doors are a popular choice with families.

Stable doors are often used in homes with pets or small children, as it provides security. It means you can open the top of the door for some fresh air, or to sign for a parcel, without the risk of your pet or a child running into the street. They’re ideal for people with excitable dogs, as it protects your visitors when you answer the door.

Stable doors also have a rustic, traditional look which is a big design trend at the moment. We can create stable doors for cottages and period homes, with woodgrain or country-inspired colours, or a more modern style for newer properties.

You can also open up your home and enjoy your garden more with a stable door. If you don’t have space for a patio or French door, a stable door lets your home feel more open. You simply open the top half and you can enjoy garden views and fresh air, without worrying about animals getting in or out of the house.

Are stable doors secure?

Because stable doors can be opened at the top, you may worry that they are easier to break into than the average door. The good news is, if you pick a quality stable door, then this shouldn’t be an issue. A stable door can be just as secure as a normal door if you pick a door with a good locking system. Stable doors lock together when closed, but you can also add extra security by having Kayvex fit separate locks to the individual panels too. Simply contact us and we can discuss your needs.

Can stable doors be made in PVCu?

If you like the simple look and low maintenance of PVCu, then we can make your stable doors in this material. We have a state-of-the-art factory to manufacture our doors, which mean they can be made according to your exact specifications. If you want the practical features of PVCu, but still want a rustic, traditional look, then we offer woodgrain PVCu finishes, which are almost indistinguishable from real wood, without the maintenance. Get in touch with us today and we can show you some of our options for finishes.

How do you operate a stable door?

Stable doors are made up of two parts, upper and lower, within the same frame. There are bolts or other fastenings that connect the two parts, so a stable door can be opened and closed like any other door. Undo these fastenings and the two panels can be opened and closed independently. Stable doors were, unsurprisingly, invented for stables, and the top panel opening allowed horses to stick their heads out, and for the stables to be ventilated, without the horse escaping. In your home, you too can enjoy increased light, garden views and fresh air, without having to open your door all the way. Once our installation team complete your build, they will show you how to operate your doors.

Why should you install a stable door?

Stable doors are becoming a popular sight in homes across the UK, and not just country cottages or stables. This is because you can get fresh air and light into your home whenever you like, without leaving a door open all the time. It prevents dust and leaves getting into your home, while stopping children and pets running out. Thinking of installing a stable door? Kayvex can help you choose the right one. Visit our showroom or speak to one of our team.

Do stable doors open inwards or outwards?

We manufacture our own stable doors in a state-of-the-art factory in the UK, which means you can choose whether your doors are designed to open inwards or outwards. Traditionally, most stable doors open outwards, with the top half able to be pinned out of the way, but this isn’t always practical in some homes, as there may be obstacles or windows in the way. If you have enough space indoors, you can get inward opening stable doors. You’ll need to ensure there’s space to fasten the top section away when opened.

Can stable doors be fitted with windows?

Yes. A popular design for stable doors is to have glass panels on the top half, so even when the top is closed, you still get some natural light. You can also have some glass panels on the lower half if you wish. Rest assured, we use quality glass, so your doors will still be perfectly secure if you go for this option. We can even add some features like decorative glass to make an interesting feature of your door. Take a look at our brochure or contact us today to find out what Kayvex can do for you.
